Aerosil 200 (hydrophilic fumed silica, INCI: Silica) is an ultra-light, high-surface-area (~200 m²/g) amorphous silica used as a thickener and gelling agent for oils, a mattifying and oil-absorbing agent in powders and primers, and an anti-caking / free-flow aid for loose powders. A few percent turns liquid oils, balms and lip products into stable gels without wax. Formulating tip: Add fumed silica slowly into the oil phase under high shear (overhead mixer or homogeniser) and keep mixing until clear and smooth — poor dispersion gives grainy, weak gels. Polar oils need more silica than non-polar ones. Handle in a draught-free area with a dust mask; the powder is very airborne.

No. Fumed silica is a synthetic, amorphous, nano-structured silica with very high surface area. It is not desiccant silica gel and not talc.
